Geography, then the Provincial Parks system
Andrew graduated with a degree in Geography from the University of Northern British Columbia and worked in the Provincial Parks system on Vancouver Island and in Northern BC before moving to Haida Gwaii with his wife, who passed in 2010.

Andrew spent 20 years on Haida Gwaii (2000–2020), employed as the Parks Coordinator in the Economic Development Department of the Old Massett Village Council and as a seasonal small business owner. Andrew became very involved in the community and served in many capacities and positions.

Haida Gwaii Discovery Tours
As the owner of Haida Gwaii Discovery Tours, Andrew provided natural history tours for groups and individuals wanting to explore and learn about the unique natural history and cultural attributes of the Islands.
To compliment his business activities Andrew served three terms on the Board of the Northern BC Tourism Association and was a Director of the Queen Charlotte Islands Chamber of Commerce.
Parks Coordinator
Old Massett Village Council
In his role as Parks Coordinator, Andrew oversaw the management of the outdoor recreation assets (campgrounds, trails and other facilities) under the control of the Haida Nation and the Province of BC. The role heavily involved collaboration between Provincial, Municipal and First Nations levels of government as well as with other stakeholder and community groups.
Eight years
Vancouver Island Regional Library Board
Although away from Nanaimo, Andrew remained closely connected to the community through regular family visits and continued his local involvement, serving for eight years as a Director on the Vancouver Island Regional Library Board.
2007–2018
Village of Masset — councillor, then mayor
Andrew has previous municipal council experience, first being elected to the Village of Masset as a Councillor in 2007. Andrew served 4 terms on Masset Council including 7 years as its mayor from 2011 to 2018.
Today
Manager, family-owned retail store
Since returning to Nanaimo, Andrew has been employed as the manager of a family-owned retail store.
